Geographical distribution. Atlantic Ocean: Dade County (Virginia Key), Florida; GoM: Tuxpan-Lobos Protected Natural Area, Veracruz Reef System National Park, Bajos de Sisal Reef System; Caribbean Sea: Puerto Morelos Reef National Park and Quintana Roo coast; Pacific Ocean: Kuril Islands, Russia, Ioshi Island, Japan; Indian Ocean: Fadiffolu Atoll, Maldive Islands.
Recognition characters. Coxa of pereopod-1 with an anterior distinct lobe; dactylus of sixth pereopod with a row of six spines on lateral margin; pleon with two last pleonites reduced; uropod with four or five articles; male cheliped larger than in female.
Remarks. It inhabits between 0 and 100 m perpendicular to the shoreline, in coral rubble, mangrove roots, submerged wood, jetties, live bottoms, coral reefs, associated with invertebrates such as sponges A. clathrodes , A. crassa , C. nucula , D. anchorata , I. birotulata , I. felix , I. strobilina , cnidarian such as E. flexuosa and P. guadalupensis , algae such as B. tenella , C. racemosa , C. cervicornis , D. dichotoma , D. obtusata , H. spinella , Rhipocephalus , S. natans and U. lactuca , at depths 5 to 20 m.
