MATERIAL EXAMINED. — New Caledonia proper. BATHUS 1 : stn DW 654 , Passe de Canala , 21°17’S, 165°57’E, 237-298 m, 1 dd GoogleMaps .
DISTRIBUTION. — Collected only in New Caledonia (Fig. 70), in 237-298 m.
DESCRIPTION. — Shell morphology. Length 2 mm, width 1 mm (single specimen examined). Shell internal, fragile, oval, with convex sides (Fig. 69F). Only 1 whorl visible, forming the entire shell. Anterior end of the shell rounded. Umbilicus closed. Aperture as long as the shell, wide anteriorly, narrowing gradually at about 2/3 of its length. Apex truncate, depressed. Aperture lip not rising from the left side. Columellar margin slightly thickened near the anterior end. Sculpture of a number of punctuated spiral grooves. The punctuations are small, oval, and fused together with adjacent ones within each groove. The grooves are separated by gaps that are wider than the grooves. Colour uniformly dirty white.
Anatomy. Unknown. All shells collected lacked soft parts.
REMARKS. — The shell morphology of Philine sp. 3 is clearly distinct from that of the other species of the genus treated herein, but because of the absence of anatomical information it is not named.
