TYPE LOCALITY: Papua New Guinea, "British New Guinea."
DISTRIBUTION: New Guinea; Represented by only a few specimens collected along the Central Cordillera from Mt Dayman in E Papua New Guinea to the Idenberg River in Irian Jaya ( Flannery, 1990b; Flannery et al., 1985).
STATUS: IUCN - Rare.
SYNONYMS: guba.
COMMENTS: Closest phylogenetic relatives appear to be species of Uromys ( Tate, 1951) .
