TYPE LOCALITY: Ecuador, Chimborazo Prov., probably near Pallatanga .
DISTRIBUTION: Montane forest from N Venezuela, through Colombia, Ecuador and Peru, to WC Bolivia.
SYNONYMS: aurillus, dryas , fulvirostris, humilior.
COMMENTS: Formerly included altissimus as a subspecies by Osgood (1933a), who also treated aurillus, humilior, and fulvirostris as subspecies. No races were deemed diagnosable by Carleton and Musser (1989).
