Lu et al., 2020: 4.

Type species Paradoxomantispa jiaxiaoae Lu et al. , (2020, by original designation.

Revised diagnosis Profemoral ISs rows: anteroventral row consisting of a major process with four or five branches (anterior branch present), and several short processes along distal 1/2–3/4 length of profemur; posteroventral row commencing by a primary process or not, with 10–18 processes. Protibia with a row of flattened prostrate setae (Type j6, j9). Male gonocoxites 9 long and slender, distally simple and acute; gonapophyses 10 very slender, rod-like, distally acute. Female sternum 7 posterolaterally produced; gonocoxites 9 short ventrally produced; ectoprocts not produced ventrally.

Key to species of Paradoxomantispa

1. Major process with primary branch 2.0 × length of secondary branch; no other processes present between level of major and primary processes; forewing immaculate; hind wing CuP proximal stem developed and distinct ( Fig. 22 View Fig j-k; Shi et al., 2019a, figs. 2-3)……….………...……. P. hongi (Shi, Yang & Ren in Shi et al.)

- Major process with pr imar y branch distinctly> 2.0 × length of secondary branch, several processes present between level of major and primary processes; forewing macular; hind wingCuP proximal stem weak or absent…………….………..……….………………….… 2

2. Profemur with quaternary branch present, primary branch 4.0 × length of secondary branch, anterior branch nearly as long as secondary branch, two short processes present between level of major and primary processes; forewing with an arcuate marking commencing from 2ra-rp to its middle, proximal r-m present; hind wing CuA with several branches bifurcated ( Fig. 22c–f View Fig ; Lu et al., 2020: figs. S6G–J)……………….………….…. P. jiaxiaoae Lu et al.

- Profemur with quaternary branch absent, primary branch much longer than secondary branch, anterior branch much longer than secondary branch, four short processes present between level of major and primary processes; forewing with one medial round spot not connecting spot on 2ra-rp, proximal r-m present; hind wing CuA with all branches simple ( Figs. 23 View ◂ e-f, 24a–h)…… P. mahaiyingae Zhuo, Li & Liu sp. nov.
