Material studied. Holotype male. NEW CALEDONIA, Rivière Bleue N.P., (parc 7), rainforest, 21.vii.1992, Bonnet de Larbogne, Chazeau & Guilbert (in MNHN). Paratypes. 2 males, same data as holotype (in MZH and PWMP), 1 male, same data as previous but parc 6, 16.vii.1992 (in SMNH).

Description. Male. Head. Brown, antenna unicolorous, paler brown brown, maxillary palpus pale brown. Eye bridge 3 facets wide. Face with 12–15 scattered longer and shorter setae. Clypeus with 5–9 setae. Maxillary palpus with 3 palpomeres; palpomere 1 longer than palpomere 3, palpomere 2 shortest; palpomere 1 with 1–2 setae, with a dorsal patch of sensilla; surface of antennal flagellomeres rough, flagellomere 4 ( Fig. 7 View FIGURE 7 A) 2.3–2.5x as long as wide, the neck slightly longer than broad, the longest setae slightly longer than the width of flagellomere. Thorax. Brown, setae dark. Anterior pronotum with 2–4 setae. Episternum 1 with 5–6 setae. Scutum with short dorsocentrals, with 2–3 stronger laterals, scutellum with 2longer and some short setae. Wing. Hyalinous. Length 1.2–1.4 mm. Width/length 0.45. Veins indistinct. R1/R 0.50–0.70. c/ w 0.80 –0.85. r-m shorter than bM, both r-m and bM non-setose. Halter brown. Legs. Yellow. Claws with teeth. Abdomen. Pale brown, setae pale brown. Hypopygium, Figs 7 View FIGURE 7 C, D. Brown, concolorous with abdomen. Gonocoxa longer than gonostylus, mesial margin sparsely setose. Gonostylus slightly curved, with the mesial side impressed;with a dense apical vestiture, with two rather slender curved megasetae, with a rather long subapical whiplash seta. Tegmen apically truncate, without an apical process.

Etymology. The name is Latin, simplex , simple, referring to the rather unmodified tegmen.
