Type: — USA. California: Armstrong’s Station, El Dorado Co., alt. 1615 m, on Sanicula graveolens (as S. nevadensis ), 11 Jun 1895, G. Hansen ( BPI 175301, holotype, designated here).

Diagnosis: Differs from E. saniculae and E. flavoluteum in having swollen and larger sori, mostly confluent spores with thicker spore walls.

Sori in leaves, forming round or elongate to polyangular, amphigenous, flat, scattered or sometimes gregarious, initially white, later pale yellowish-brown spots, 1–10 mm diameter or larger when confluent. Spores confluent, sometimes in chains, globose, subglobose, ovoid, ellipsoidal to slightly irregular, (11) 12–16 × 14–20 (22) μm diameter [av. ± SD, 14.9 ± 1.8 × 16.7 ± 2.9 μm] with subhyaline content. Spore wall 2–6 μm thick, uneven, hyaline to subhyaline, smooth. Anamorph absent.

Etymology: —Named for the state in which the known specimens were collected.
