DISTRIBUTION: N. California; S.C. Oregon.
COMMENT: Considered distinct from heermanni ; includes eximius and saxatilis; see Patton et al., 1976, J. Mammal., 57: 159. Hall, 1981: 578, listed californicus as a subspecies of heermanni , without discussion of Patton et al., 1976.
