TYPE LOCALITY: Canada, Hudson Bay .
DISTRIBUTION: Brooks Range in Alaska ( U.S.A.) to Labrador ( Canada), Tamaulipas ( Mexico), and N. Florida ( U.S.A.). Introduced in Europe and Asia.
COMMENT: Lavrov and Orlov, 1973, Zool. Zh., 52:734-742, considered this species distinct from fiber . Reviewed by Jenkins and Busher, 1979, Mamm. Species, 120:1-8.
