Noccaea rosularis (Boissier & Balansa 1856: 39) Al-Shehbaz (2014: 45) View in CoL ; ≡ Thlaspi rosulare Boiss. & Balansa ,

basionym; ≡ Masmenia rosularis (Boiss. & Balansa) Meyer (1973: 468) . Figs. 3–4 View FIGURE 3 View FIGURE 4 .

Type :— TURKEY. [NiĞde], “in regione montana superiore jugi montis Masmeneudagh,” 8 Aug 1855, B. Balansa s.n. (Holotype: G –BOIS [photo!]; isotypes: GH [photo!], K [photo!], P [photo!], US) .

Glaucescent biennial, 15–30 cm, single-stemmed, inflorescence branching from low on stem (sometimes very near to base). Basal leaves rosette forming, green-brown, 20–40 mm, oblong-spatulate, apex acute, margins irregularly toothed. Cauline leaves, simple, ovate-oblong or ovate-lanceolate, (10)18–20 × (5) 8–18 mm (linear lanceolate and 15–16 × 3–5 mm near base), amplexicaul, entire, auriculate, sometimes overlapping; auricles 1–2 mm, rounded at tip. Inflorescence compound and corymb-like raceme (up to 22 racemes), racemes 15–75-flowered, congested in flower, elongating in fruit. Pedicel up to 10 mm in flower, horizontally spreading, 3–12 mm in fruit. Sepals 2–2.7 × 1.2–1.5 mm purple or occasionally green with slender white margin. Petals 4.5–6 × 2–2.5 mm, white, retuse at tip, long stamen 2.5 mm, short stamen 2 mm, pistil ca. 2 × 1 mm, stigma capitate. Fruit ovate, slightly compressed laterally, 6–8 × 4–7 mm; style capitate, very short, not exceeding sinus; terminal lobes distinctly unequal, septum 5.5–7.5 × 2.5–3.5 mm; each locule 2–ovulate. Seeds brown, 2.2–2.7 × 1.8–2.0 mm.

Flowering and fruiting time: —May–July.

Seed micromorphology: —Seed coat is laticostate. Epidermal cells are elliptical to irregularly pentagonal. Cell walls are thickened mostly at the corners, the boundaries are raised above the cell centres. Anticlinal walls are flat, outer periclinal walls are flat to concave. Surface ornamentation is rugulate ( Fig. 4 View FIGURE 4 ).

Suggested Conservation status: — Noccaea rosularis is restricted to southern Anatolia and known from two areas characterised by serpentine bedrock. The occupancy area of this species was calculated as less than 100 km 2 and it is severely fragmented and also known to exist in no more than 5 localities. Consequently, in accordance with the criteria of the World Conservation Union ( IUCN 2017), N. rosularis is here re-assessed as “Endangered” (EN) B2ab(i,ii), whereas Ekim et al. (2000) evaluated it as CR.
