Etymology
This species is named ‘ variegatus ’ meaning ‘mixed colours’ in Latin referring to the variegated metasoma. The name is treated as an adjective.
Diagnosis
This species is closer to C. parallelogaster . These two species can be differentiated with the following character states. In C. variegatus the metasoma is widest at the anterior margin of T3 and the space between costae on T2 is punctate whereas in C. parallelogaster T2–T4 are almost equally wide and the space between costae on T2 is reticulate-striate.
