Type species. Chiton albus Linnaeus, 1767 , subsequently designated by Winckworth (1926).

Genus distribution and range. All oceans in cold and temperate waters, usually not more than 14ºC, intertidal to 4572 m. Miocene–Recent ( Sirenko 2023).
