Hyphessobrycon flammeus guabirubae Godoy 1987: 220 View in CoL , fig. a.
Syntypes: MHNP 406 View Materials , 4 View Materials (1 measured), 21.1 mm SL ( Figure 3 View FIGURE 3 ): Brazil, Santa Catarina, between Guabiruba and Brusque, unidentified pond, 12 Jun 1982 .
Remarks: Currently, the species is a synonym of Hyphessobrycon griemi Hoedeman 1957 ( Lima et al. 2003).
There is no explicit indication in the lot that MHNP 406 includes the syntypes. However, no other specimens in the collection have the characteristics of Hyphessobrycon flammeus guabirubae (sensu Godoy 1987) . More importantly, the number of specimens (four) and the sampling data informed in the label match perfectly those reported by Godoy (1987). Although the type specimens were originally collected in a pond, Godoy (1987) mentioned that he obtained them from a fish tank in Balneário Camboriú, State of Santa Catarina. Concurrently, the label informs that the specimens were donated by the Arnoldo Schaeffer from a fish tank in the same city. Therefore, the specimens are certainly the syntypes of H. guabirubae .
