= Pinguicula macrostyla Benj. (1847: 317) . Type:— PERU. Without locality, s.d., J. Dombey s.n. ( B †, P [not found]).

Note:—For P. involuta Casper (1966) did not examine any original material and he just cited the locality as it appears in the protologue. Several specimens of P. involuta from the “Expedición a los Reinos de Perú y Chile ” by H. Ruiz and J. A. Pavón were traced, mainly in historical European collections due to the commercial and scientific exchange started by J. A. Pavón after the death of H. Ruiz in 1816 ( Rodríguez Nozal 1994). The majority of the specimens sold by J. A. Pavón were acquired by A. B. Lambert, and after Lambert’s death, they were auctioned by W. J. Hooker ( Miller 1970); meanwhile, other materials were acquired by P. B. Webb, M. E. Moricand (probably through A. P. de Candolle) and J. C. Hoffmannsegg, and thus arrived to different herbaria in Europe and United States of America ( Rodríguez Nozal 1994). From the original material traced by us, just a few specimens have information on locality which seems to have been added after the publication of the name in the Flora Peruviana et Chilensis by Ruiz & Pavón (1798). Two original specimens were traced at MA (Herbario de Ruiz y Pavón): the sheet MA 815471 has a plant which is very similar to the drawing appearing in the protologue ( Ruiz & Pavón 1798: pl. 31, f. c), except it lacks flowers (the plant has eight floral scapes without flowers), it also bears a label from the “Ex Herbario Flora Peruviana ”; the other specimen ( MA 815470) contains several plants, one of them with a flower, fitting the characters described by the authors: “Nectarium conicum, longitudine petali, acutum, curvatum”. In spite of the latter specimen being better preserved, we have selected the specimen MA 815471 as lectotype according to Arts. 9.2, 9.3, 9.11, and 9.12 of the ICN ( McNeill et al. 2012), because it seems to have been the specimen used to describe and illustrate the new species. The remaining specimens traced are referred to as isloectotypes following Rec. 9 C of the ICN ( McNeill et al. 2012).
