Diagnosis. Body length 2.30–3.40 mm. General body color brownish; pronotum with midline and posterior margin dark brown; coxae, trochanters, and basal half of femora yellowish, remaining of legs yellowish brown. Body and legs covered by conical small black denticles. Anterior lobe of pronotum with a pair of small slight pruinose areas laterally. Micropterous form ( Fig. 18 View FIGURE 18 D) with wings almost reaching posterior margin of abdominal tergite III (visible tergite II), white on basal half and apex, centrally brown with lighter areas. Macropterous form ( Fig. 18 View FIGURE 18 C) with wings reaching genital segments; dark brown, with lighter veins; a basal white macula starting from humeral angle and slightly passing the posterior margin of pronotum; at apex another small rounded macula. Apical portion of first genital segment of male, proctiger, and pygophore with small black denticles. Paramere with rounded apex ( Fig. 20 View FIGURE 20 F).
Discussion. This species is known from the micropterous and macropterous forms, and was described from Mato Grosso State, Brazil. Recently, this species was recorded from the Chaco province, northern Argentina ( Melo et al. 2011). It is herein recorded for the first time from Goiás and Minas Gerais, and from other localities in Mato Grosso. Paravelia bahiana sp. nov. and P. paxilla ( Drake, 1957) also have the body covered by small black denticles, but P. splendoris differs from the former, because its denticles are conical and pointed backwards, whereas they are rounded, absent on dorsal body and legs, and less distinct in P. bahiana sp. nov., which also have different forewing maculae. In relation to P. paxilla , the two differ in body length (2.30–3.40 mm in P. splendoris ; 4.35–4.53 mm in P. paxilla ) and in the amount of denticles, prominent and numerous in P. splendoris , and less prominent and scarcer in P. paxilla . Besides that, different from P. splendoris , P. paxilla is known only from the apterous form.
