Included species. The genera of the original combination are indicated within brackets. Stenocionops angustus ( Lockington, 1877) [ Chorilibinia View in CoL ] (EP), Stenocionops beebei Glassell, 1936 (EP), Stenocionops coelatus ( A. Milne-Edwards, 1878) [ Pericera ] (WA), Stenocionops contiguus ( Rathbun, 1892) [ Pericera ] (EP), Stenocionops furcatus ( Olivier, 1791) [ Cancer Linnaeus, 1758 View in CoL ] (WA), Stenocionops ovatus (Bell, 1835) [ Pericera ] (EP), Stenocionops spinimanus ( Rathbun, 1892) [ Libinia View in CoL ] (WA), Stenocionops spinosissimus (Saussure, 1857) [ Pericera ] (WA).
Remarks. The name Stenocionops was coined by Leach in a manuscript made available to Desmarest, who validated it by giving a short description and assigning Maia taurus Lamarck, 1818 , and Cancer cornudo Herbst, 1804 to Stenocionops ( Desmarest 1823: 259, 266). Ng et al. (2008) designated M. taurus , a junior synonym of C. furcatus Olivier , as its type species. Of the eight species accepted today in Stenocionops , most were originally described in Pericera Latreille, 1828 , a junior synonym of Stenocionops Desmarest, 1823 .
