Original description: Cyprinus morar Hamilton, 1822: 264 View in CoL , 384, pl. 31, fig. 75 (reservoir in Fort Monro, elevation 1909 metres, Khan District, Pakistan; holotype: GCM F 9].— Afghanistan synonyms: Aspidoparia morar ( Hamilton, 1822) View in CoL ; Aspidoparia sardina Heckel, 1847 View in CoL .—Revisions: None.—Illustration: Hamilton (1822: pl. 31, fig. 75) as Cyprinus morar View in CoL .
Status in Afghanistan. First record from Afghanistan by Coad (2014: 132); confirmed by Coad (2015: 227).— Afghanistan materials: CMN.
Distribution and habitat. Distribution in Afghanistan: Kabul River.—General distribution: South Asia: Afghanistan, Nepal, India, Iran, Bhutan, China, Bangladesh, Myanmar and Pakistan.—Habitat: This species inhabits streams, rivers, and ponds in plains and mountainous regions. This is an oviparous species; they scatter their eggs after laying them and are externally fertilized. Freshwater.
Economic importance. Locally consumed, but of no commercial importance.
Conservation. Conservation status in Afghanistan: Unknown.—IUCN: LC ( Chaudhry 2010b).—Threats: FIT, HAB.—Low sensitivity to human activities.—Not considered as a keystone species.—Decline status: Unknown.—Low priority for conservation action.
