Remarks: A major effort to breed Gambusia was implemented during 1971–1979 in Afghanistan. Fish were reared in artificial ponds based on natural springs near the cities of Qonduz, Mazar, Faryab, Kabul, Lashkar Gah, and Jalalabad and transported to rice farms and stagnant waters. For example, fish listed as Gambusia affinis (but probably Gambusia holbrooki ) Coad (2014).
