Taxonomy. Original description: Schizothorax barbatus McClelland & Griffith View in CoL in McClelland 1842: 580 [Kabul River at Jalalabad, Afghanistan; syntypes: (3) BMNH 1843.2.25.69 (1, dry skin)].— Afghanistan synonyms: None.—Revisions: None.—Illustration: None.
Status in Afghanistan. First identified from Afghanistan by McClelland (1842); listed by Coad (1981: 12 as status uncertain; 2014: 321 as a synonym of S. esocinus ).—Afghanistan materials: None.
Distribution and habitat. Distribution in Afghanistan: Kabul River.—General distribution: Afghanistan endemic.— Habitat: Found in rivers and streams. Freshwater.
Remarks. Questionably a synonym of Schizothorax esocinus . Because this may be an endemic species, the current status needs clarification.
