Status in Afghanistan. First record from Afghanistan by Coad (2014: 298); previously reported by McClelland (1842: 575) as Pimelodus rita (non Hamilton 1822); confirmed by Coad (2015: 229).—Afghanistan materials: None.
Distribution and habitat. Distribution in Afghanistan: Kabul River.—General distribution: Indus River drainage ( Afghanistan, Pakistan, and northwestern India).—Habitat: This species inhabits streams. Freshwater.
Economic importance. Locally commercially important.
