Diagnosis and comments. Body color black. Scutum with two parallel longitudinal whitish stripes. Scutellum black with golden hairs on the distal margin. Pleura brown with long and abundant yellowish and orange hairs. Wing slightly infuscated orange. Abdomen with tergites 2 and 3 with a pair of rounded central white spots rounded and a pair of small spots on the lateral margins, tergite 4 with a pair of rectangular spots occupying almost the entire segment ( Fig. 8 View FIGURES 8 – 14 ). P. elegans is close to P. biguttatus in the following characters: pleura and the distal margin of scutellum with yellowish-orange and golden hairs, respectively, with rectangular white spots on tergite 4, but differs by having a pair of central white spots and a pair of lateral white spots on tergites 2 and 3, while in P. biguttatus tergites 2 and 3 are completely black. P. elegans has white spots on sternites 2, 3 and sternite 4 with two central white spots forming a broad band occupying half of the segment, while in P. biguttatus sternites 2 and 3 have small white spots, and sternite 4 shows a thin band, a quarter of the height of segment.
Description. Female (N = 24; length = 14.5 – 22.0 mm). Head: eyes dark brown without color pattern when dry, bare. Frons with black pruinosity, with short black hairs, parallel-sided, with three ocelli ( Fig. 9 View FIGURES 8 – 14 ). Parafacial with gray pruinosity and short black pilosity. Posterior border of the head gray with black hairs, brown close to the margin; vertex dark brown without hairs. Clypeus convex with gray pruinosity and long black hairs on surface. Gena with gray pruinosity and long yellowish and orange hairs continuous with those of the occiput, beard yellowish. Scape and pedicel with dark brown pruinosity and black hairs; first flagellomere blackish brown larger than the pedicel; apical flagellomeres black. Maxillary palpus short dark brown with long black hairs. Proboscis and labellum dark brown.
Thorax: Scutum black with short and sparse black hairs, with two parallel longitudinal whitish stripes. Scutellum black with golden hairs on the distal margin. Pleura with brown pruinosity, covered with long, abundant yellowish and orange hairs. Legs dark brown with brown hairs. Wing slightly infuscated orange mainly in the costal margin.
Abdomen: black dorsally, shining with sparse abundant black hairs on all tergites; tergites 2 and 3 with a pair of central whitish spots of approximately 1 mm diameter and a pair of small white spots on the side margin of both segments, larger on tergite 3; tergite 4 with a pair of rectangular white spots occupying almost the entire segment with abundant white hairs. Sternites 2 and 3 with a white spots that occupy almost the entire segment; sternite 4 with a white band.

Posterior border of the head with gray pruinosity, and yellowish hairs, brown near border; vertex dark brown without hairs. Clypeus less convex than female with gray pruinosity, and long abundant black hairs, erect. Gena with gray pruinosity and black hairs, continuous with those of the occiput and beard yellow. Scape and pedicel with dark brown pruinosity, and black hairs; first flagellomere larger than the pedicel blackish brown; apical flagellomeres black, conical apically. Maxillary palpus, dark brown with black pilosity, shorter than female. Proboscis and labellum dark brown, shorter than female.
Thorax: Scutum black with short and sparse black hairs, with two parallel longitudinal whitish stripes. Scutellum black with golden hairs on the distal edge ( Fig. 10 View FIGURES 8 – 14 ). Abdomen: black dorsally, shining with sparse black hairs on all tergites ( Fig. 12 View FIGURES 8 – 14 ); tergites 2 and 3 with a pair of central whitish spots and a pair of small white spots on the side margin of both segments; tergite 4 with a pair of rectangular white spots occupying almost the entire segment with abundant white hairs on the spots and margin of the segment. Sternites shining and with sparse black hairs; sternites 2 and 3 with a pair of lateral white spots; sternite 4 with a white band. Terminalia ( Fig. 13, 14 View FIGURES 8 – 14 ). Cerci one-segmented and prominent, lobate, apically rounded with small setae.
