Types. Syntypes, 15 specimens Hokarita (probably Hokitika), New Zealand (MNHN-IU-2013-19985 (= MNHN-Am1880)) .
Material examined. A male, 19 mm, parts in microvial, AM P.105575, Kaikoura, South Island (labelled as ‘tumida’ by Chilton, Hurley (1956); b male, 16 mm, parts in microvial, AM P.105576, Kaikoura, South Island (labelled as ‘tumida’ by Chilton, Hurley (1956); 5 specimens (2 males 20 mm, 16.8 mm; 3 females 12.4 mm, 16 mm, 17.2), AM P.5743, Kaikoura, South Island (labelled as ‘tumida’ by Chilton, Hurley (1956); 6 specimens (3 females, 20 mm, 17.5 mm, 16 mm and 3 males, 20 mm, 18 mm, 16.5 mm) ZMUC unreg, Kaikoura, South Island (labelled as ‘tumida’ by Chilton, Hurley (1956).
Type locality. Massacre Bay , Cook Strait and Hokitika, South Island .
Size. Male 29 mm ( Chilton, 1917).
Remarks. Both T. cookii comb. nov. and T. tumida comb. nov. can be separated by the gnathopod 2 propodus palm which is more transverse and has the margin sinusoidal in T. cookii comb. nov. while in T. tumida comb. nov. the palm is subacute and has a distal tooth near the hinge of the dactylus.
Habitat. Supralittoral.
Distribution. New Zealand. South Island: Massacre Bay; Hokitika, Kaikoura ( Filhol 1885; current study); Puysegur Point; Bluff; Waipapa Point; Golden Bay; Stewart Island; Green Islets; Kaikoura; Preservation Inlet; Riverton; Moeraki ( Chilton 1917).
