Thrips obscuripes Priesner, 1934: 278 View in CoL – 279 Female (macropterous): Body uniformly dark brown, legs, fore wing and antennae dark; major View in CoL setae dark. Antennae 7-segmented, III–IV with sensorium forked. Head wider than long, ocellar setae pair III situated just outside or near margins of ocellar triangle; postocular setae II & IV minute ( Fig. 5 View FIGURES 1 – 12 ). Pronotum wider than long, with two pairs of long posteroangular setae; posterior margin with three pairs of setae. Metascutum with striate sculpture; median setae long, arising behind anterior margin; campaniform sensilla present ( Fig. 12 View FIGURES 1 – 12 ). Fore wing first vein with seven basal and three distal setae; second vein with row of about 15 setae; clavus with five marginal setae. Abdominal tergum II with 4 lateral marginal setae; posteromarginal comb on tergite VIII complete and fine slender regular ( Fig. 19 View FIGURES 13 – 25 ); tergite X split longitudinally except at base. Pleurotergites and sternites without discal setae.
Male: Similar to female but smaller; posteromarginal comb on abdominal tergite VIII posterior margin not apparent; sternites III–VII with small, transverse, oval pore plate.
Specimens examined. China: Yunnan, 5 females, on Albizia julibrissin , 24. iv.2010; Yunnan, 6 females, 1 male, on Pyrus serotina , 12. iv.2008; Sichuan, 83 females, 4 males, on Rhododendron simsii , 9.v.2010; Guizhou, 2 females, on Brassica campestris , 8.iv.2009.
Remarks. Described from Java, this species is closely related to formosanus , which has a pale antennal segment III. Also similar in structure is flavus , but that is a yellow species with ocellar setae much closer together.
