Diagnosis
Medium-sized Cyclopinae with depressed body markedly divided in prosome and urosome; genital double-somite wide with leg 5 vestiges located in anterior half, above frontal plane; seminal receptacle small, solely expanded frontally; caudal rami and anal operculum variable, former with six elements, latter either crescentic or triangular produced; terminal median setae on caudal rami with breaking plane; female antennule 10- segmented at most, with ancestral segments VI –XI fused; male antennule 15/16-segmented in male, with three aesthetascs on first segment; antenna four-segmented (coxobasis + three segments) without exopodal element; mandibular palp absent, represented by single seta; maxillule and maxilla conform cyclopid type; maxilliped four-segmented with two, one, one and two elements, either lanceolate or long and pinnate; leg 1 coxa with medial seta, legs 2–4 without; intercoxal sclerites with prominent triangular distal corners; both rami of legs 1–3 and exopodite of leg 4 two-segmented; female leg 4 endopodite one-segmented with original segmental morphology unchanged, or markedly ovate, globular and complex; male leg 4 endopodite two-segmented with typical segmental morphology; spine formula of terminal exopodite segments: 3.3 .3.3, setal formula 5.5.5.4; proximal exopodite segments lacking medial seta; male leg 3 endopodite with modified armament: outer apical spine smooth or partially serrate; leg 5 completely confluent with pediger, ancestral basal segment undifferentiated, represented by single seta, ancestral distal segment prominently distinct, truncated, with two elements: medial one spiniform, outer one setiform. Female and male leg 6 vestiges with three elements: medial one spiniform, middle and outer elements setiform.

Thalamocyclops is a combination of thalamos (Greek for interior, inside room, behind closed doors) and the nominal generic name Cyclops , referring to the hidden and secret occurrence of the type species and its congener in crevices of karstified limestone. Gender masculine.
