Type species. Orchestia sylvicola Dana, 1852 .
Etymology. The genus is named for James Dana , the 'father' of Australian and New Zealand talitrid amphipod taxonomy; masculine.
Included species. Dana includes 5 species: D. hauturu ( Duncan, 1994); D. simularis ( Hurley, 1957); D. sinbadensis ( Hurley, 1957); D. sylvicolus ( Dana, 1852 ); D. taranaki ( Duncan, 1994).
