Key to males and females of Neodelphax View in CoL species.
The three species of Neodelphax recognized from our studies can be distinguished by the following key.
1. General coloration predominantly dark brown to black, except carinae, antennae and legs yellowish ( Figs 14 View FIGURES 14 – 16 a, 15a). Vertex subquadrate, basal compartment relatively short ( Figs 14 View FIGURES 14 – 16 b, 15b). Submedian frontal carinae joined far below lower level of eyes ( Figs 14 View FIGURES 14 – 16 c, 15c). Processes of anal segment distinctly expanded at base ( Figs 14 View FIGURES 14 – 16 d, 15d)........................... 2
- General coloration yellowish brown with lighter intercarinal areas of frons, antennae and legs ( Figs 16 View FIGURES 14 – 16 a, c). Vertex shorter than wide, basal compartment relatively large ( Fig. 16 View FIGURES 14 – 16 b). Submedian frontal carinae joined just below lower level of eyes ( Fig. 16 View FIGURES 14 – 16 c). Processes of anal segment uniformly wide at base ( Fig. 16 View FIGURES 14 – 16 d)............................... N. acheron (Fennah) View in CoL
2. Male with pygofer distinctly marked with yellow on dorso-lateral margin. Processes of anal segment slightly dilated subapically and projected in acute apical spine; parameres S-shaped with inner angle obscure; phallotheca short and laterally depressed with caudal process slender, ventrally projected closely below phallotrema ( Fig. 14 View FIGURES 14 – 16 d). Female with genital scale subtriangular, strongly produced caudally ( Fig. 14 View FIGURES 14 – 16 e), valvifer VIII expanded basally ( Fig. 14 View FIGURES 14 – 16 f). Spur with 26–28 acute fine teeth.................................................................................. N. fuscoterminata (Berg) View in CoL
- Male pygofer uniformly brown dark, Processes of anal segment strongly wide basally, laterocaudad margins produced in welldeveloped claw-like process caudoventrad curved; parameres slender and sinuous, moderately curved apically, inner angle distinct; phallotheca tubular with a spinous flag-like process at 1/3 apical ( Fig. 15 View FIGURES 14 – 16 d). Females with genital scale wide and bispinose ( Fig. 11 View FIGURES 1 – 13 ), valvifer VIII widely produced at base ( Fig. 12 View FIGURES 1 – 13 ). Spur with 22–23 acute teeth......... N. sakakibarai View in CoL sp. n.
