Imanosmylus Makarkin, 1994 View in CoL
( Fig. 39 View FIGURE 39 )
Type species. Imanosmylus ussuriensis Makarkin, 1994: 286 (by original designation).
Diagnosis. Forewing ovoid, costal area broad; subcostal veinlets simple, very closely spaced and nearly perpendicular to Sc; branches of RP numerous, dense; RP1 originated near origin of RP; M forked distal of origin of RP2; MA and MP pectinately branched; MA field slightly smaller area than MP field; CuA probably few pectinate; CuP likely pectinate and likely smaller in area than CuA; A1 pectinate; hind wing unknown.
Comments. Ren & Guo (1996) proposed that this genus belonged to Spilosmylinae . Indeed, the subcostal veinlets are simple and closely spaced as in most species of this subfamily. However, this character is not necessarily unique to Spilosmylinae and the shape of the subcostal veinlets in the costal area is different to that of spilosmylines. Moreover, overall wing shape in Spilosmylinae tends to be slightly narrower (especially basally) than exhibited by Imanosmylus , whose wing is more rounded. There is an important autapomorphy of Spilosmylinae that may be support this attribution, i.e., a spur-like process from the basal part of the hind wing MP. This is unfortunately not evident in the specimen of Imanosmylus although we do retain the placement of this genus in Spilosmylinae provisionally.
Included species.
