Argyrophorodes angolensis sp. n.
Type locality: Angola: Cachoeiras, 20mls SW Gabela.
Imago (Fig. 30): Wingspan 18–19mm. Head whitish; labial palpus whitish, a large black tuft on segment 2, a black ring around segment 3; maxillary palpus prominent; antenna whitish. Thorax whitish, fuscous around edges. Forewing whitish, dark fuscous scaling along much of costa; a dark fuscous subbasal crossline; median crossline bent inwards preceded by a subcostal spot; a black discal spot; postmedian crossline curved and then bent outwards to dorsum; a broad subterminal band becoming dark fuscous on the outer edge; a fine black subterminal line; termen yellow, a broken blackish line along inner edge of cilia, a fusous line in cilia. Hindwing white, base ochreous; a blackish subbasal line and median line, neither reaching costa; a broad yellowish postmedian fascia becoming fuscous outwardly; a fine subterminal line; termen yellow, a blackish line along edge of termen and 3–4 black dots towards apex. Forelegs with blackish bands on joints. Abdomen dirty white.
Male genitalia: Unknown.
Female genitalia (Fig. 149): Ostium wide; antrum tapered regularly to colliculum; ductus bursae initially bent where there is a broad entrance to the ductus seminalis, then long and broad very gradually widening into corpus bursae which is membranous, without signum. Overall length of bursa about half that of abdomen.
Tympanal organs: Venulae long and straight.
Biology: Unknown, adults taken iii, v.
Diagnosis: Differs from A. suttoni in the darker markings and strong cross lines of the forewing.
Derivation: From the country Angola where many specimens originate.
Distribution: Angola, D.R. Congo, Zambia.
Material examined: Holotype ♀ and two paratypes ♀, one slide No. 21229. ♀: “ Angola: Cachoeiras| 20mls SW Gabela| 18–19.iii.1972. | Southern African Expedition, 1972.” ( BMNH).
