The genus Hemidactylus is divided into four genetically distinct and geographically almost exclusive clades ( Carranza & Arnold 2006). The species living in Iran belong to the arid clade ( H. persicus , H. robustus , H. turcicus , and probably also H. romeshkanicus ) and to the tropical Asian clade ( H. flaviviridis ).
