5. Pedicularis confertiflora Prain (1889: 258) .

Protologue citation:—“EASTERN HIMALAYA : Sikkim (Hooker!); Chumbi and Phari (Dr. King’s collectors!)”.

Type:— CHINA. Tibet: Chumbi & Phari ( Pagri ), 30 Aug. 1882, [King’s collector] Dungboo s.n. (lectotype CAL0000018898 !, designated here) ; isolectotype CAL0000018896!

Syntypes:— CHINA. Tibet: Chumbi & Phari ( Pagri ), Aug. 1879, [King’s collector] Dungboo s.n. ( CAL0000018917 !, K000196166!) ; Tibet: 30 June 1882, King’s collector s.n. ( CAL0000018899 !) ; INDIA. Sikkim: 13,000–15,000 ft., Hook. f. s.n. ( CAL0000018897 !) .

Notes:— Prain (1889) described Pedicularis confertiflora based on the specimens collected by Hooker from Sikkim, India and by King’s collectors from Chumbi & Phari, China, but no specific herbarium sheet was designated by him as the holotype. Five specimens of King’s collectors from Chumbi & Phari, China (CAL0000018896, CAL0000018898, CAL0000018899, CAL0000018917, K000196166) and one specimen of Hooker from Sikkim (CAL0000018897) were traced. Of these, the better preserved specimen CAL0000018898, is designated here as the lectotype. One specimen collected from Tibet, China by King’s collector was found at CAL (CAL0000018899) without the Chumbi & Phari specification, but considered as the original material because Prain usually underlined author’s name on type herbarium sheets ( Singh et al. 2015) and this specimen was annotated by him as “ Pedicularis confertiflora Prain ”.
