Stems up to 200 cm, twining, puberulent. Leaves 9-13 x 4-8 cm, ovate, acute to acuminate; veins and margins ciliate. Petioles 8-15 mm. Cymes 6- to 10-flowered; peduncles 10-50 mm. Calyx-lobes ovate. Corolla 8 mm in diameter, dark purple; lobes broadly ovate, with straight hairs on upper surface. Corona-membrane c. J as long as the segments; lobes sessile. Follicles 5-8 x c. 0- 6 cm, fusiform, sparsely pubescent. Woodland and scrub. S. & E. Ukraine, S. Russia. Rs (C, W, K, E).
