Perennial herbs with slender rhizomes. Leaves in a whorl at the top of the stem; occasionally a few alternate leaves below. Flowers (5-)7(-9)-merous, axillary, solitary on capillary pedicels, ebracteate. Corolla rotate. Capsule globose; valves 5(-7), deciduous. Seeds few, reticulate.
