Stems 20-50 cm, erect; young twigs puberulent. Leaves 1O-4O(-5O) x 4—10(—15) mm, elliptic-oblong, entire to obscurely serrate, covered with brownish scales beneath. Bracts similar, but progressively smaller upwards. Racemes inclined or horizontal, with 5-20 pendent flowers. Bracteoles and calyx c. 2 mm. Corolla 5-6 mm, white. Capsule 2-2-5 mm, depressed-globose. 2« = 22. Bogs, marshes and wet woods. N.E. Europe, extending southwards to N. Poland and to c. 52° N. in S.C. Russia. Fe Po Rs (N, B, C, W, E) Su.
