Dwarf shrubs; leaves alternate, shortly petiolate. Flowers 5-merous, in small, terminal racemes or clusters; bracteoles 2, at base of pedicel. Sepals small, connate for much of their length. Corolla urceolate, with short lobes. Stamens 10; anthers with apical appendages, opening by pores or shortslits. Fruit a small, berry-like drupe with 5-10 pyrenes.
