Glabrous, rhizomatous herbs. Leaves green, somewhat coriaceous, alternate, in lax basal rosettes; cauline leaves reduced to small scales. Flowers in terminal racemes, not secund. Anthers opening by pores at the end of short tubes. Pollen-grains in tetrads.
