Plant with long, slender, creeping, non-flowering branches, woody at base and rooting at nodes, sometimes with a terminal inflorescence. Flowering stems rarely more than 10 cm, hairy all round. Leaves linear to elliptical, subsessile, ciliate at base; lateral veins disappearing towards margin. Inflorescence usually capitate. Calyx 3-5 mm, campanulate; upper teeth about as long as wide, usually ciliate. Corolla purple. • Europe northwardsfrom N.E. France, N. Austria, and N. Ukraine.
