Remarks. Valid species described from Norway ( Sars 1862b). Oriental populations need to be revised, as there are more than one species in the region (Van Damme et al. 2010). Tuberculate forms indicated as “ tuberculata” (see below) are not subspecies or species, this character is subject to variability even within a population.
Distribution. Cosmopolitan species complex ( Smirnov 1971), yet true distributions are unknown and taxonomy is highly complicated in A. guttata s.lat. (Van Damme et al. 2010).

Indian records. Assam — Sharma B.K. & Sharma S. (2010; 2012) .
Remarks. Described from Czech Republic ( Kurz 1874). Tuberculated morphotypes, described for different forms of Alona or Alona- like taxa, are not valid species (Van Damme et al. 2010). In this case, it can be considered as a variety, not a subspecies of A. guttata .
