Notes: Ishikawa (1966) described the dorsal shield of Neoparholaspulus ochraceus as having 37 pairs of setae. The accompanying illustration of the adult female shows 25 setae on the left side of the shield (15 podonotal, 10 opisthonotal) and 26 on the right side (16 podonotal, 10 opisthonotal). The missing seta on the left appears to be s2. There are 12 pairs of setae in the soft integument, and if these are included, the total rises to 38 pairs. Ishikawa (1979) stated that the adult of P. ochraceus has 30 pairs of setae on the dorsal shield. His illustration of the deutonymph shows 18 pairs of setae on the podonotal shield and 12 pairs on the opisthonotal shield, to account for his 30, with an additional eight pairs in the soft integument. Setae r2, r3 and r5 are outside the podonotal shield in the protonymph, on the shield in the deutonymph, and outside the shield again in the adult. This sequence appears unlikely, and Ishikawa’s interpretations must be considered as questionable. The same is true for the opisthonotal shield, where the deutonymph has 12 pairs of setae and the adult has only 11, probably including z6, which is displaced backward to a position almost level with J1.
