HOLOTYPE: AMNH 252040 About AMNH , adult male, collected on Viti Levu, 18.00S, 178.00E ( USBGN, 1974c), Fiji, on 5 May 1925, by Rollo H. Beck on the Whitney South Sea Expedition (no. 17845). GoogleMaps

COMMENTS: Mayr cited the AMNH number of the holotype in the original description. Paratypes are other Whitney Expedition specimens from Viti Levu: AMNH 252028–252039 About AMNH , 252041 About AMNH , 252041 About AMNH bis, and 252042–252050 ; of these, AMNH 252039 About AMNH is on display in the Fiji diorama in the Whitney Hall of Oceanic Birds. I did not find AMNH 252038 and 252044 ; they were perhaps exchanged to other institutions without the catalog having been so marked.
