Butalis montana Brehm

Butalis montana Brehm, 1831: 220 (Er bewohnt die deutschen gebirgigen Wälder, z.B. den thüringer Wald …).

Now Muscicapa striata striata (Pallas, 1764) View in CoL . See Hartert, 1918a: 29, and del Hoyo et al., 2006: 114.

Probable Syntypes: AMNH 457117, male, and AMNH 457118, female, collected in Thüringer Wald, Germany, in June. From the Brehm Collection via the Rothschild Collection.

COMMENTS: The original Brehm label is missing from these two specimens, which are tied together and share a recopied label. Hartert (1918a: 29) said: ‘‘This is one of the cases in which an irresponsible person copied old C.L. Brehm’s labels, without taking the trouble of filling in all the details of the old labels. As this is the only pair in the collection named B. montana , I suppose they must be the types.’’
