Themus (Telephorops) kubani sp. nov.

Type locality. Northeastern Laos, Houa Phan province, Mt. Phou Pane, 20°13ˏ09–19˝ N 103°59ˏ 54˝–104°00ˏ03˝E, 1350–1500 m a.s.l.

Type material. Holotype, male ( NMPC), “LAOS-NE, Houa Phan prov., 20°13ˏ09–19˝ N 103°59ˏ 54˝– 104°00ˏ03˝E, PHOU PANE Mt., 1350–1500 m, 1.–16.vi.2009, Vít Kubáň leg. / Primary mountain forest, individual collecting, Laos 2009 Expedition: NHMB Basel, NMPC Prague [white labels, printed]”. Paratype, male ( NHMB), same labels data, M. Brancucci lgt.

Description. Coloration ( Fig. 1 ). Head orange, mouthparts sepia to chestnut brown, basal six antennomeres yellow, antennomere 6 darkened in terminal half, rest of antennomeres black, antennomere 7 narrowly yellow basally or antennae sooty to black with basal two antennomeres ferrugineous on underside. Prothorax and scutellum orange to ferrugineous, meso- and metasternum and ventral part of abdomen yellow or ferrugineous to sepia. Legs black, coxae and narrow bases of femora yellow to orange. Elytra black with slight violaceous black tinge or violaceous black.

Male. Eyes comparatively small, moderately protruding, head across eyes distinctly narrower than pronotum, behind eyes moderately narrowing posteriorly. Antennae almost reaching elytral apex, antennomeres 4–9 with longitudinal, narrow, matt impression. Surface of head very finely punctate, with fine semierect pubescence, lustrous. Pronotum wider than long by ca one quarter, anterior margin slightly bisinuate, anterior corners nearly rectangular and sharp, lateral margins strongly diverging posteriorly, posterior corners obtuse, rounded, posterior margin widely convex, slightly sinuate in middle. Surface of pronotum like that of head, punctate and pubescent, lustrous. Elytra distinctly narrowing posteriorly, slightly shortened, not covering last abdominal segment, apex of each elytron slightly tapered. Surface of elytra covered by fine, sparse, semierect black pubescence, very finely and sparsely punctate, semilustrous in basal two thirds, basal two thirds with oblique rough rugulose-lacunose area, dilated towards suture. Elytra shallowly depressed in middle before rugulose-lacunose v-shaped area. Surface of apical third of elytra finely punctate like that of base, with shallow, rounded transverse wrinkles before elytral apices, semilustrous. Aedeagus as in Figs. 28–29 .

Female unknown.

Length (male). 11.5–11.8 mm.

Differential diagnosis. Themus (Telephorops) kubani sp. nov. most resembles Themus (Telephorops) impressipennis (Fairmaire, 1886) (Guizhou, Taiwan) in its body form and aedeagus, but it differs by its much smaller body, largely yellow antennal base, black elytra and especially longer laterophyses, reaching almost to the apex of the dorsal part of the aedeagus.

Etymology. Patronymic, dedicated to its collector, Vítĕzslav Kubáň (NMPC), member of the Naturhistorisches Museum Basel and National Museum Prague Expeditions to Laos.

Distribution. Northern Laos.
