TYPE LOCALITY: India, Bengal .

DISTRIBUTION: India; Nepal; S. Tibet; Sri Lanka; and perhaps Kashmir.

COMMENT: Type species of Semnopithecus ; perhaps a valid genus (CPG); but also see Szalay and Delson, 1979, who considered it a subgenus.

PROTECTED STATUS: CITES - Appendix I and U.S. ESA - Endangered.
