TYPE LOCALITY: Venezuela, Duida Range, Rio Casiquiare .
DISTRIBUTION: Panama to Guyana, French Guiana, Surinam, Amazonian Brazil and N. Argentina; Ecuador to Peru.
COMMENT: May be divisible into 2- 3 species; see Brumback, 1974, J. Hered., 65:321-323. Hall, 1981:259, listed bipunctatus as a distinct species but stated it is almost surely no more than a subspecies of trivirgatus .
PROTECTED STATUS: CITES - Appendix II as Order Primates .
