Haemonides cronis urichi Lathy, 1923 View in CoL : Annals and Magazine of natural History (9) 12 (68): 227. ( Figs. 17–18 View FIGURES 14 – 24 ).
Type material. Described from a single male collected by Robert Dick (?–1943). This specimen is the holotype by monotypy, at the time of description it was in the collection of Madame Aimée Horrack de Fournier (1876–1952) ( Lathy, 1923) which is now in BMNH.
Type locality. Given in the original description as “ Trinidad ”. The holotype label gives the locality as St. Anne’s [sic]. St Anns may refer to an area in the north-west of Port of Spain, the capital of Trinidad, but butterfly collectors, of which Robert Dick was one, used this term to refer to the well-known forested collecting areas St. Ann’s Ridge and St. Ann’s Peak to the north-west of Port of Spain between 1500ft and 2000 ft ( Barcant, 1970; Cock, pers. comm.).
Taxonomic status. A junior subjective synonym of H. cronis ( Cramer, 1775) . This taxon was originally described as a subspecies of cronis and was treated as such by Miller (1995) and Lamas (1995) but it was synonymised with nominotypical H. cronis by González & Cock (2004); the phenotype looks identical to H. c. cronis so we believe the synonymisation to be correct.
Distribution. Confined to Trinidad. This taxon has been recorded from ridgetops and hilltops from the Northern and Central ranges of Trinidad ( González & Cock, 2004).
Discussion. Lathy (1923) gave a number of features to separate cronis and urichi , but in a series, none are reliable.
Material examined. 5 males and 1 female were examined for this study.
