Nomenclatural notes: — Striga densiflora was originally described as Buchnera densiflora ( Bentham 1835) and later transferred to the genus Striga ( Bentham 1835) . The author mentioned heterogenous collections in the protologue along with Wallich’s Catalogue No. 3873 (3873a-Wight, 3873b-Madras (by Griffith and Lindley), 3873c- Heyne from Peninsular region and Royle from Northern part of India). During the study, we have traced several specimens preserved at K, E and CAL. We have examined two specimens by Wight ( K 001117496!, K 000800766!), three by Griffith and Lindley ( K 000800766!, K 001117498!, K 00111749899!), three by Heyne ( K 000800769!, K 001117497!, K 001117500!), one by Royle ( K 000800768!) and one unknown collection without any details ( K 000800770). We have also traced one specimen by Wight at E ( E 00273646!) and one by Royle at CAL ( CAL 0000018856!). All specimens are well preserved and bear flowers and fruits. The specimen kept in CAL, with barcode CAL 0000018856 is well preserved and perfectly fit with the protologue. It is considered more suitable for lectotypification and designated here as the lectotype according to the ICN Art. 9.3 ( Turland et al. 2018).
