Emberiza meridionalis Cabanis, 1850: 128 .
Now. Emberiza cia Linn, 1758 View in CoL . See Hartert 1904: 183.
Type series. Cabanis (1850: 128, footnote) described this species on the basis of bird(s) from “Bischerre” [= Bcharré, Lebanon]. Hemprich and Ehrenberg collected eight such specimens ( Lichtenstein 1825, Nr. 340–347, sub Emberiza cia ), but only two should have been retained by the ZMB ( Lichtenstein 1825) and only two were registered in the Inventory Catalogue of the ZMB. Cabanis (1850) thus probably based the species upon these two specimens.
Syntype. ZMB 5926 skin, unsexed, collected in “Juli” [= 5–24 July 1824] at “Bischerre” ( Lichtenstein 1825 and label) [= Bcharré, Lebanon].
Syntype (lost): ZMB 5927 collected in “Juli” [= 5–24 July 1824] at “Bischerre” ( Lichtenstein 1825) [= Bcharré, Lebanon].
Type locality. “Bischerre” (see above), i.e. Bcharré, Lebanon.
