Figs. 3 A View FIGURE 3 ; 4 A–E View FIGURE 4

Thalli are cylindrical to slightly compressed, rigid cartilaginous, dark vinaceous-red, up to 9.5 cm. Pinnate distichous branching up to second order ( Fig. 3 A View FIGURE 3 ). Apex obtuse with prominent apical cell ( Fig. 4 A View FIGURE 4 ). Thallus composed of many layers of medullary cells (more than 10) ( Fig. 4 B View FIGURE 4 ) and elliptical outer cortical cells radially arranged ( Fig. 4 C View FIGURE 4 ). Rhizines absent. Attachment by independent rhizoidal filaments. Tetrasporangia developed in distal sori on compressed to flattened ultimate branches with tetrasporangia developed acropetally ( Fig. 4 D View FIGURE 4 ) without sterile margins ( Fig. 4 E View FIGURE 4 ). Tetrasporangia divided decussately cruciate ( Fig. 4 E View FIGURE 4 ).
