Species 58: Teuchophorus ketudatae View in CoL sp. nov. (male and female) (figures 218–223)

Etymology. This species is named after Ass. Prof. Punsin Ketudat,

Srinakharinwirot University (Bangkok) who helped us in many respects.

Diagnosis. Rather large species, without stigma. Eyes narrowly separated in male and female. Antenna dark brown; third segment lighter brown, triangular with blunt tip, about as long as deep. Legs and coxae yellow; legs partly feebly browned. (Male) Hind femur ventrally on basal third with a row of short bristlets, on apical half with some long, hair-like bristles. Hind tibia posteroventrally on median third with a brush of short, somewhat flattened bristles, preceded on basal third, ventrally, by a row of longer bristles; anteroventrally a row of moderately long hair-like bristles; dorsally three short, weak bristles. Mid tibia ventrally without bristles (in female one av). Fore femur with a row of short pv. Hypopygium small, globular.

Material examined. Type material: Thailand: Krabi province, Hin Pheng Waterfalls , primary rain forest, 25 October 1997,    male and      three males, one female (No. 97116, leg. P. Grootaert) .

Male

Body length 1.5–1.85 mm; wing length 1.5–1.65 mm.

Head. Frons and face with blackish green ground colour. Face very narrow, its width less than one-third of depth of third antennal segment. Palpi small, brown, each with a short, black apical bristlet. Rostrum brownish yellow. Occiput greenish black. Chaetotaxy as usual; two tiny postocellars. Postoculars uniseriate, black. Antenna (figure 218): first and second segments dark brown; third segment lighter brown. Marginal bristlets on second segment very short, longest above. Third segment triangular, with blunt tip, about as long as deep. Arista very shortly pubescent, about five times as long as third antennal segment; basal aristal segment longer than third antennal segment.

Thorax. Thorax and scutellum shining dark metallic green; pleurae partly dark brown. Acr uniseriate, short. Two very short, hair-like propleural bristlets.

Legs. Legs and coxae yellow. Mid coxa with a vague, brownish longitudinal streak. Fore femur dorsally feebly browned. Mid femur (except base), apical half of hind femur, basal half of mid tibia, and base of hind tibia feebly browned.

Fore leg. Coxa anteriorly shortly haired; at tip a few short bristle-like hairs. Trochanter ventrally with some very short hairs. Femur posteroventrally with a row of short, hair-like bristles that are longest near tip of femur, being there about as long as depth of femur; anteroventrally a row of much shorter hair-like bristles. Tibia a little shorter than femur, without bristles or serration. Length of tibia and tarsal segments (in mm): 0.4:0.19: 0.07: 0.05:0.05: 0.06.

Mid leg. Coxa exteriorly with dark hairs, two or three of which are bristle-like. Trochanter anteriorly and ventrally with some very short bristlets. Femur posteroventrally on apical third with a row of short, bristle-like hairs; hairs of the anteroventral row slightly lengthened. Tibia about as long as femur; two ad, one pd, all weak; no ventral bristles. Length of tibia and tarsal segments (in mm): 0.55: 0.2:0.12: 0.1:0.08: 0.07.

Hind leg (figure 219). Coxa with a black exterior bristle. Trochanter with a few ventral bristlets. Femur ventrally on basal third with a row of three or four short bristles (shorter than depth of femur); on apical half an irregular row of three or four long, thin hair-like bristles of unequal length, the longest of which (at apical fourth) is longer than greatest depth of femur; posteroventrally near tip a few short, thin, hair-like bristles. Tibia a little shorter than femur; posteroventrally on median third a brush of short, somewhat flattened bristles (figure 220); on basal third ventrally a partly doubled row of bristles that are slightly longer than diameter of tibia; anteroventrally a row of hair-like bristles, slightly longer than diameter of tibia; dorsally three weak bristles. Length of tibia and tarsal segments (in mm): 0.55: 0.15:0.18:0.14: 0.08:0.07.

Wing. Wing (figure 221) hyaline, feebly brownish tinged. No stigma; costa not thickened. r4+5 and m1+2 nearly parallel, very slightly diverging. Length ratio of basal and apical parts of m1+2 about 1:2. Halters yellow. Squamae yellow, with dark brown border, and brownish cilia.

Abdomen. Terga brown; venter yellowish, with brown sterna. Hairs and hindmarginal bristlets on terga black, very short. Hypopygium (figures 222, 223) small, globular, dark brown; cerci short, yellow.

Female

Body length 1.7 mm; wing length 1.5 mm.

Like the male. Face a little broader, slightly more than half as wide as depth of third antennal segment. Legs without longer hairs or bristles, except on mid tibia two ad, one pd and one av, and on hind tibia three weak dorsal bristles. Oviscapt with eight black acanthae.
