Materialexamined (2 ff) – Femaleholotypeandonefemaleparatype: CostaRica, He- redia, Chilamate, 18–23 August 1988, leg. W. J. Hanson. – Holotypeisingoodcondition: (1) glueddirecttothepinbyitsrightmeso-andmetapleuron, (2) tarsi 1–2 somewhatless visibleowingtothemounting. Paratypeisinsomewhatlessgoodcondition: (1) gluedlike holotype, (2) leftantennadeficient: presentfirsttwoflagellomeres, (3) alarvenationsome- whatlessvisibleowingtothemounting. HolotypeandparatypearedepositedinHNHM, Hym. Typ. Nos 12251 (holotype) and 12252 (paratype).

Etymology – Thenewspeciesreceivedthelatinizedphantasyname “danzas”.

Description of the female holotype – Body 4.2 mm long. Antenna nearly as long as body andwith 18 antennomeres. Scapeinlateralviewthreetimesaslongasbroad. Flagellom- ereslong, firstflagellomerefivetimesandpenultimateflagellomere 2.3 timesaslongas broad (cf. Fig. 171), distalhalfofflagellumattenuating. – Headindorsalviewtransverse, twiceasbroadaslong, eyetwicelongerthantemple, templerounded (Fig. 161). OOL one- thirdlongerthanPOL. Eyeinlateralviewalmost 1.8 timesashighaswide, gena beyondeyeweaklybroadeningandsomewhatwiderthaneye (Fig. 162 seearrows). Gena anteriorlyfinelypunctate, interspacesgreaterthanpuncturesandshiny, posteriorlyfinely substriated (Fig. 162). Clypeusalmost 1.5 timesaswidebelowashighmedially, itslower marginjustconvex (Fig. 163). Face 1.6 timesaswideashigh, rugose; clypeusfinelypunc- tate, interspacessubshinytodull. Malarspacesomewhatlongerthanbasalwidthofman- dible. Fronsrugulose, vertexandocciputsubstriolate.

Mesosoma 1.25 timesaslongashigh, scabrous. Notaulixdistinct. Scutellumscabrous (cf. Fig. 387 View Figs 385–397 ). Fourdenticulesoftransversepropoealcarinaequalinsize (Fig. 164). Hind femur 3.1 timesaslongasbroadmedially, hindtibiathickeningdistallyandasbroadas femur (Fig. 165 seearrows). Hindbasitarsusaslongastarsomeres 2–4 combined.

Forewingaboutone- thirdshorterthanbody (3 mmlong). Pterostigma 2.5 times aslongaswideandissuing r justdistallyfromitsmiddle, 3–SR twicelongerthan r, SR1 straight, 1–R1 almostaslongaspterostigma (35:40, Fig. 166).

Carapaceindorsalviewtwicelongerthanbroadandweaklybroadeningposteriorly (i.e. nearlyparallel-sided, longitudinallystriated, interstriationscrenulate- subcrenulate, itshindend (striolate-)rugose (Fig. 170), apicallywithaverysmallforamen (Fig. 168). Carapaceinlateralviewcurved, 2.9 timesaslongashighposteriorly, itshindendrather rounded (Fig. 167 seearrows). Carapaceapico-ventrallynotincurved (Fig. 169). Ovipositor sheathaboutaslongashindtarsomeres 1–2 combined.

Bodyblack. Scape, pedicelandflagellomeres 3–5 ochreyellow, restofflagellum blackishtoblack. Palpibrowntolightbrown. Tegulablackish, parateguladarkbrown. Legs 1–2 lightbrowntobrown, trochantersandtarsiyellow. Leg 3 blackishtoblack, trochantersandtarsusyellow. Wingssubhyaline, aroundpterostigmabrownishfumous. Pterostigmabrown, veinsratherlightbrown.

Description of the female paratype – Similar to the female holotype. Body 4.2 mm long. Vertexratherstriated. Carapace 2.2 timesaslongasbroadposteriorly. Carapaceinlateral view 3.2 timesaslongashighposteriorly. Carapaceapicallywithoutforamen.

Maleadhostunknown.

Distribution – Costa Rica.

Taxonomic position – The new species, Microchelonus danzas , is closest to M. subplanus Papp as well as to M. buscki (Viereck and M. pyriformis Papp , theirdistinctionseeinthekey-couplets 46 (45) – 48 (47) aswellasinthekey couplets 113 (112) – 115 (114) tothefemale Microchelonus species.
