Materialexamined – Femaleholotype: CostaRica , Guanacaste, 3 kmSEfromriverNa- vanjo, May 1992, leg. F. D. Parker. – Holotypeisinfairlygoodcondition: (1) glueddirectto thepinbyitsrightpro-andmesopleuron; (2) missing: middlepairoflegs, rightflagellom- eres 4–14, tarsomeres 4–5 ofrighthindleg. Typedepository: HNHM, Hym. Typ. No. 12226 .

Etymology – Thespeciesname “acutulus” referstotheacuteposteriorendofthe carapace (Fig. 7).

Description of the female holotype – Body 3.3 mm long. Antenna (left one) short: as long asheadandmesosomacombinedandwith 16 antennomeres. Scape 2.5 timesaslongas wide, firstflagellomerethreetimesaslongasbroadapically, furtherflagellomeresshorten- ingsothatflagellomeres 10–13 cubic; flagellomeresproximo-distallyattenuating. – Head indorsalviewtransverse (Fig. 1), clearlytwiceasbroadaslong, eye 2.2 timeslongerthan temple, templereceded. OOLsomewhatlonger (12: 10) thanPOL. Eyeinlateralview 1.8 timesashighaswide, genabeyondeyeweaklybroadeningventrally: 0.6 timesaswideas eye (Fig. 2 seearrows). Genasubstriolated. Clypeus 1.7 timesaswidebelowashighmedi- ally, itslowermarginfaintlyconvex (cf. Fig. 36 View Figs 32–45 ). Face 1.7 timesaswideashigh. Clypeus withconfluentpunctation, shiny. Facerugulo-rugose (Fig. 3). Vertexandocciputdensely substriolated (Fig. 1).

Mesosomainlateralview 1.6 timesaslongashigh. Mesosomascabrous, scutellum rugose. Transversecarinaofpropodeumwithfourdenticules (Fig. 5). Hindfemurthicken- Figs 1–16. 1–9. Microchelonusacutulus sp. n. Forewingshorterthanbody (2.5 mmlong). Pterostigma 2.5 timesaslongaswide andissuing r fromitsmiddle; 3–SR 1.6 timeslongerthan r, SR1 almoststraight, 1–R1 almost, 0.87 times, aslongaspterostigma (Fig. 6 seearrows).

Carapaceindorsalviewfeeblybroadeningposteriorly, 2.8 timesaslongasbroad, carapaceapicallyacute, itsanteriortwo-thirdsstriate, interstriationssubcrenulate (Fig. 7). Carapaceinlateralview 4.3 timesaslongashighposteriorly, apicallypointeddorsally (Fig. 8). Carapaceapico-ventrallydeeplyincurved: incurvedpartaslongashindtarsomer- es 1–3 combined (Fig. 9). Ovipositorsheathshort, concealed (Fig. 8).

Groundcolourofbodyblack. Scapeandpedicelochreyellow, flagellumblackish. Tegulabrownishblack. Legstestaceous, hindtibiaproximallyandhindbasitarsusstraw yellow, distalendofhindtibiabrownish. Wingshyaline, pterostigmabrown, veinsyellow to light brown.

Maleandhostunknown.

Distribution – Costa Rica.

Taxonomic position – The new species, M. acutulus , is close to M. cacumenus Pappand M. parkeri Papp , thethreespeciesaredistinguishedinthekeyto thefemalescouplets 18(19) – 21(20).
